AGENDA OF THE SESSION:-
Is India Heading Towards a France-style Hijab Ban?
Join the Legal Thirst Session on the trending religious event happening in Andhra Pradesh restraining the entry of schoolgirls wearing Hijab into the school premises. The BJP led government of Andhra Pradesh is seeking a permanent ban on Hijab tracing the footprints of nations like France. The liberalists and women’s rights association show their concern on the topic, and they supported the ban as Hijab wearing remarks restrictions.
On the other hand, Islamic & religious institutions seek this ban as an unnecessary restriction imposed on the Muslim community as an obstacle to following their religion & faith. They consider Hijab wearing as an important religious symbol of Muslims.
Ms. Sanya Darakhshan is a human rights law expert, thus her insights on the topic will enlighten us more.
In this session, we will be discussing, Whether banning Hijab is Human Rights Violation? Role of the ‘Secular’ feature of the constitution while dealing with this aspect. Negativity & Religious tensions created in Educational Institutions.
