Case Title:
In Re: Matter Of Great Public … vs Unknown on 20 April 2019 SUO MOTO WRIT PETITION was filed. A former junior Court Officer alleged that she was sexually harassed by the Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi.
CJI called a special hearing and denied the allegations. Advocate Utsav Bains claims that the allegations made are counterfeit, influenced by a larger conspiracy to subvert the independence of the judiciary by corporate persons and corrupt political leaders. The order passed stated that “Considering the matter court refrain from passing any judicial order.” They left with the understanding of media to show control and not publish as it has serious allegations. The Bench directed retired Justice AK Patnaik assisted by the Director of the CBI, the Chief of IB & the Delhi Police Commissioner to conduct an inquiry.
Judgement:
The three-judge bench led by Justice Kaul disposed of the matter. He noted that electronic evidence is onerous to reclaim after nearly two years. And the committee headed by CJI Bobde regarding the sexual harassment charges had hitherto given its report.
