Session on Legal Rights of Women at Workplace – Register Now [19 Mar]

The legal rights of women at the workplace in India are an important topic that has gained significant attention in recent years. In a session focused on this issue, various legal aspects were discussed to help women better understand and assert their rights at the workplace.

The platform features a wide range of content, including articles, blogs, podcasts, webinars, and interviews, covering various aspects of the law, including corporate law, intellectual property law, criminal law, and constitutional law, among others. The content is curated by a team of legal experts, including law students, lawyers, and legal scholars, ensuring that the content is accurate and up-to-date.

    ABOUT THE SESSION

The session began by highlighting the fact that gender-based discrimination and harassment are prohibited under Indian law. The Constitution of India guarantees women equal rights and opportunities in all spheres of life, including the workplace. Several acts such as the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013 and the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017 were also discussed, which provide protection to women in various aspects of their work-life.

The discussion then moved on to explain the various forms of harassment that women may face at the workplace, including verbal, physical, and psychological harassment. Participants were made aware of the redressal mechanisms available to them, such as internal complaints committees, and how to approach the relevant authorities in case of any incidents of harassment.

The session also highlighted the importance of maternity benefits and the legal provisions available to women in this regard. The Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 and its amendment in 2017 provide for various benefits, including paid leave, nursing breaks, and crèche facilities for new mothers.

In conclusion, the legal rights of women at the workplace in India are crucial to ensure gender equality and to create a safe and conducive work environment for women. The session provided important information on legal aspects, redressal mechanisms, and maternity benefits available to women, empowering them to better assert their rights at the workplace.
