    1st Online National Celebrity Advocacy Competition, 2020: Law Central

    ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

    Law Central is an autonomous body initiated to provide a platform to law students where they can actively participate in various legal activities and competitions. Law is called a jealous mistress and there is no room in it for the lazy and mediocre. We intend to bring out the best amongst students by fostering in them a sense of competitiveness. Our vision is to inculcate a feeling of professionalism and responsibility in budding lawyers. Moreover, we prosper to create a network of legal communities to facilitate interactions among lawyers to today.

    ABOUT THE COMPETITION

    This competition is an individual event. The main aim of this event so introduced remains to give the student of law a taste of fame, and the pressure that comes along with such fame. It shall enhance the productive outcome when the “lawyer to be” is put under pressure in a hypothetical simulation of a High Profile Celebrity case. In this event, a participant shall be assigned a controversial celebrity character who may be of National or International significance and the participant has to prosecute or
    defend the assigned controversial character as his/her advocate.

    Law Central is organizing Online Celebrity Advocacy Competition, 2020 to highlight the necessity of social distancing despite bringing in the students together to a competitive platform.

    RULES AND REGULATIONS

    ELIGIBILITY & REGISTRATION:

    1. This competition is open for all the law students from different recognized Universities/ Colleges/ Institutions across the country.
    2. This competition is an individual event.
    3. Multiple teams are allowed from a University/College/Institute.
    4. A maximum of 30 registrations is allowed in this competition.

    FORMAT OF THE COMPETITION:

    1. All participants shall be assigned a controversial celebrity character who may be of National or International significance.
    2. The proposition concerning the same shall be e-mailed to participants 2 days prior and the participant will be required to prosecute or defend the assigned controversial character as his /her advocate.
    3. The determination of the Prosecution/ Defence side shall be by draw of lots 15 minutes prior to the commencement of the competition.

    Rounds:

    PRELIMINARY ROUND:
    • The 30 participants will be divided between 3 groups. Top scorer from each group will qualify to the next and final round.
    • In this round the participant shall be assigned a controversial celebrity character who may be of National significance and the participant has to prosecute or defend the assigned controversial character as his/her advocate.
    • The total time allotted to a participant shall be 12 minutes only.

    The time division is as follows:

    1. Introduction of controversy and Prosecuting/Defending the celebrity and Rebuttal /Sur-Rebuttal: 8 minutes.
    2. Questioning by Judges: 4 minutes.

    FINAL ROUND:

    Top 3 participants from First Round shall compete against each other and the winner and the runners up shall be declared from them. In this round, the participant shall be assigned a controversial celebrity character who may be of International significance and the participant has to prosecute or defend the assigned controversial character as his/her advocate.

    The total time allotted to a participant shall be 20 minutes only.
    The time division is as follows:
    1. Introduction of controversy and Prosecuting/Defending the celebrity and Rebuttal /Sur-Rebuttal: 15 minutes.
    2. Questioning by Judges: 5 minutes.

    NOTE:

    The participants must bear in mind that NO ELECTRONIC MODES OF INFORMATION CAN BE USED OR ACCESSED DURING THE COMPETITION. (This includes all electronic items like Laptops, Tablets, Cell Phones, i- watches, etc.)
    EXCEPT THE DEVICE USED FOR VIDEO CONFERENCING.

    JUDGEMENT CRITERIA:

    The Marking scheme shall comprise of 50 marks per participant, which shall be distributed as follows:

    1. Acquaintance with the character: 20 marks.
    2. Adequacy in response to the question: 20 marks.
    3. Confidence and composure through questioning: 10 marks.

    SAVINGS:

    1. The decision of Judges shall be final and binding.
    2. The organization reserves the right regarding the conduct of the event.
